You know how Steve Jobs said,
“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers… the ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Well, let me tell you about one of those crazy ones: my incredible friend, Havana Gari.
A couple of months ago, she reached out and said, “I need your help with my ‘Around Africa on Motorcycle’ trip.”
Me: Sorry, Around Africa on WHAT?
Her: Yeah, I’m riding around Africa on a motorcycle to raise funds for the LOGOS Endowment Fund. It’s a scholarship fund to help needy students complete high school and university. Oh, and I need your doodles for the fundraising campaign!
Me: Wait, you’re literally riding around Africa on a motorcycle?
Long story short, I laughed, called her crazy, and then said, “Count me in!”
Havana’s goal? To raise KES 50 million (about $340,000) to pay school fees for bright but underprivileged students, empowering them to chase their dreams through education. So far, she’s completed the first leg of her journey, riding through Ethiopia and Djibouti, and will be kicking off leg two on 18th January 2025, traveling through even more of the 34 countries on her route.
Why is she doing this?
But this journey isn’t only about funding education. As a humanitarian worker, Havana’s riding to break barriers, especially for girls and women. She’s proving that no dream is too big, no boundary too great, and no challenge too insurmountable when you’re fueled by purpose and determination.
